About Agra
Agra, famous for the Taj Mahal one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is situated on the banks of the river Yamuna. It is surrounded by Mathura the birth place of Lord Krishna, Dhaulpur, Firozabad and the famous Bharatpur wild life sanctuary.
Agra is known for its magnificent mughal architecture and historical marvels. The forts and Palaces showcase the Mughal architecture at its best and are famous worldwide for its architectural wealth. The city is also known for its marble handicrafts, carpets and leather products mainly shoes. Many big brands in shoe business have set up workplaces here to exploit this.
And above all, Agra is home to one of the wonders of the world; the splendid architectural monument of love Taj Mahal built in white marble stone
Climate
As like other cities in India the climate of Agra is extreme & Tropical. Summers are hot to the extreme and co are winters which are cold and foggy. The humidity is high in the summer months. The maximum temperature can be as high as 44 degree Celsius during the daytime in summers but the nights are relatively cooler. During winter the climate is pleasant and is always advisable and preferable for tourists to travel during winters. The minimum temperature sometimes goes to as low as 2-3°C in the peak winter months of December and January
Best time to visit Agra is in the winter season (December-February).
Shopping in Agra
Agra is known for its handicrafts and fine arts tradition. The leather goods manufactured in Agra are famous around the globe; hence a tourist will find a wide range of leather shoes & sandals. “Agra ka petha” a well known sweet is also famous by the name of Agra.
The main shopping areas of the city are Sadar Bazar, Kinari Bazar, Raja-ki-Mandi, and the Taj Mahal Complex. Shopping is recommended at the Govt. Emporia or Souvenir Shops approved by Uttar Pradesh Tourism. A replica of the Taj Mahal made in marble is a must buy for all the tourists.
